Step into the spotlight and journey through the rich history of musical theatre in this dynamic course that blends historical exploration with performance. Students will examine key milestones in the evolution of musical theatre, from its early roots to modern masterpieces, while gaining insight into the cultural and artistic impact of each era.
Through in-depth study of influential composers such as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and others, students will discover how iconic works shaped the landscape of musical theatre. Each decade will come to life as students perform songs, scenes, and ensemble pieces from landmark shows, deepening their appreciation for the craft of storytelling through song and dance.
No prior experience in musical theatre is required—just a love of performance and a curiosity to explore Broadway’s legacy. By the end of the course, students will have developed a well-rounded understanding of musical theatre’s history and its transformative power, both on stage and beyond. This course will culminate with a class showcase where students will present some of the pieces they worked on. Registration must be completed online.
