Theater Arts

Out-of-Door students learn the essential art of storytelling and performance through various classes and after-school opportunities. These skills prepare students to self-confident public speakers and effective communicators.
In the Lower School, skills are enhanced through grade specific endeavors, including Wax Museum and 5-a-Day Play. In the Middle and Upper School, elective classes allow students to explore theater arts through broadcast opportunities, public speeches, group scenes, and dance. Through our after-school program, students explore all aspects of stage performance as they produce four productions each year. Opportunities exist for Middle and Upper School students to be actors, directors, light and sound technicians, set designers, and set builders.

  • Student Productions

All Upper and Middle School students have the opportunity to participate in school productions by auditioning at scheduled times. Once the shows are chosen and cast, students prepare during after-school and weekend rehearsals with the director. Student-actors develop crucial acting skills as they prepare for the performance. Student crew members gain hands-on experience in light design, sound, makeup, costuming, prop management, and set design. The cast and crew become a team as they learn the importance of each participant’s role in a successful production. Each show is performed three to four times during its scheduled run.
