Planned Giving

In 1924, The Out-of-Door Academy’s founders, Fanneal Harrison and Catherine Gavin, sought to establish a uniquely progressive school committed to high academic standards and nourishing the minds, bodies and spirits of children. More than 90 years later, Out-of-Door remains inspired by their vision.

What is the Gavin & Harrison Legacy Society?

By joining the Gavin & Harrison Legacy Society, you are honoring our school’s founders and helping to sustain their vision for The Out-of-Door Academy today and in the future. The society is composed of donors who include The Out-of-Door Academy in their wills or other estate plans. Their gifts provide essential financial support for all aspects of the academy. Common types of gifts that qualify for membership include:

List of 6 items.

  • Wills/Bequests

Some people believe that giving to charitable institutions through their will is only for the extremely wealthy. However, for every large, well-publicized charitable bequest, there are countless smaller ones arranged by people of all means, in all walks of life. Giving through your will can be an easy way to continue to support young people after your passing.
  • Gift Annuities

This gift pays you income. This is a life income gift that not only supports the mission of The Out-of-Door Academy, but also pays you a guaranteed fixed income for life. These gifts are generally very simple to set up and do not require a substantial amount of investment. Upon your passing, the remainder continues to support the mission of The Out-of-Door Academy.
  • Charitable Remainder Trust

This gift pays you income. A Charitable Remainder Trust is a life income gift that pays income to you and/or other beneficiaries for a term of years or until your passing. When the trust terminates, Out-of-Door receives the remainder of the trust.
  • Charitable Lead Trust

A Charitable Lead Trust is a gift that makes annual contributions to The Out-of-Door Academy for a term of years. The property then passes to your heirs with substantial tax savings. You can safeguard your estate for your heirs while you support Out-of-Door.
  • Life Insurance

The Out-of-Door Academy may be named as the owner and/or beneficiary of an existing or new life insurance policy.
  • Real Estate

Under certain circumstances, Out-of-Door can accept real property as a donation.
